Minor Ailments

Colds & Sore Throats

There is no magic cure for the common cold or flu. Our advice is rest, drink plenty of fluid and take Aspirin or Paracetamol for headaches and fever.

DO NOT GIVE ASPIRIN TO CHILDREN UNDER 12 YEARS OF AGE

Antibiotics rarely help these conditions. Sore throats frequently accompany a cold and disappear quickly. If your sore throat persists, sometimes medical treatment will be necessary.

Burns

Minor burns and scalds cause a redness of the skin. Immediate treatment by running cold water over the burn is very helpful. If the burn causes severe blistering or breaks the skin, the doctor should be contacted.

Nose Bleeds

Sit in a chair, leaning forward breathing through your mouth and pinch all the soft part of your nose just below the bone for ten minutes. If bleeding continues after this, contact the surgery.
