Practice Nursing Team

Practice Nurses
The practice nurses are available by appointment to dress wounds and ulcers, remove stitches, give injections, syringe ears and perform ECGs when necessary. They are able to give general advice about many medical and health education topics and may be able to deal with straightforward or minor complaints. The nurses have special training in Healthy Living and Preventative Medicine and give advice covering Respiratory Disease, Blood Pressure, Diabetes, Coronary Heart Disease, Foreign Travel, Cervical Smears, Family Planning, Smoking Cessation.

Assistant Practitioner
Assistant Practitioners are Health Care Assistants who have undergone a 2 year training programme to enable them to carry out many treatment room duties in addition to phlebotomy, blood pressures and ECGs.  These duties include, simple dressings, removal of stitches, ear care, B12 injections, Prostap injections and pneumonia vaccinations.
Health Care Assistants
The Health Care Assistants at Grove House work alongside the Practice Nurses and Doctors. HCAs undergo specific training for their role, they are able to take blood pressures, ECGs, testing urine samples, blood  (phlebotomy), smoking cessation and many other tasks. They are not trained to interpret results and measurements.
